KoprishtitsaMay 4th-5th
Koprishtitsa is a museum village about 2 hours from Sofia. It is filled with Bulgarian National Revival period architecture. There are nearly 400 buildings of architectural and historical significance that are protected by government decree. Koprishtitsa was first settled at the end of the 14th century by Bulgarians fleeing from the Turkish invasion.
After 1878 and independence from Turks, many of Koprishtitsa's merchants left their mountain homes and moved to the cities leaving the village essentially unchanged. In 1952, the communist Bulgarian government declared the village a town-museum, and in 1971, a 'historical reserve'.
