Excursion- Delos Apollo Sanctuary

Delos is an island sanctuary. It was revered as the birthplace of Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. Its vast archaeological site has revealed grand temples, and the most complete residential quarter surviving from ancient Greece. Situated at the center of Cyclades, Delos was not only the spiritual focus of the ancient Greeks' ethnic identity, but also a highly prosperous grain port and slave market. At its height, the latter had a "turnover" of 10,000 slaves a day.

Santorini is the southernmost of the Cyclades group in the south Aegean Sea and is on the northern edge of the Sea of Crete. The island and its surrounding islets are formed from the rim of an ancient drowned volcano that exploded in about 1628 BC.
